Background
Formed
1996
Collingwood Warriors were formed in 1996 and
competed for a single season, 1996/97 in the NSL. The club was formed as a
merger between VFL team Collingwood and ex-NSL team Heidelberg Utd.
The Warriors made a promising start by winning the
pre-season competition, defeating Marconi-Fairfield 1-0.
However, despite a strong start to the season in which
the team went 7 matches without defeat, Collingwood's form slumped and it ended
up finishing second from bottom on the table. The team also
suffered from financial pressure, and at the end of the 1996/97 season,
Collingwood Warriors disbanded.
